What Goes in to Quality Workmanship

When having a service performed by anyone, in any type of industry, it should be expected that the end result being received is something that is quality work. Companies and contractors that claim to be experts in their industry and field should be able to give their clients the type of workmanship and craftsmanship that they are known for.

Before choosing the company that is going to come to do work for you on your home it is often times best to ask around to friends to see what types of contractors that they have used in the past or to go online and find a website where the work of the company has been reviewed. Often times these reviews, or a testimonial directly from your friend, will give you an idea of what type of contractor you will be working with, the level of craftsmanship and workmanship that they may provide, and the amount of courtesy and respect that you can expect to receive from whomever you will be working with.

Say that you are having some sort of construction project done for your home, like a deck, sun room, or screen room; you are going to want someone that is going to do a quality job. These types of exterior features on a home can really make or break what people see on the outside of your dwelling. These are also structures that can be very dangerous if not constructed properly. The workmanship and the tools and materials that going into constructing something of this magnitude must be used properly and put together in a manner that is not only aesthetically appealing, but is also as stable and sturdy and safe as possible.

It is best to use a contracting company that is known for its professionalism and integrity in their line of work. The company should want each of its customers to be extremely satisfied with the work that is done not only for the sake of that customer but for the sake of maintaining a good name for the business.

Remodeling projects can really add that something extra and functionality to your home so working with the best workmen and craftsmen in the business is really the only way to go. Your home should look like it was worked on be a skilled artist, just one that specializes in home projects.

Bathroom Moisture Problems - Home Remodeling

Right above my bathtub in my master bathroom the paint is peeling off the wall. The area is peeling above the tile in my bathtub and shower combination. I tried to glue the peeling paint back and only made the situation worst.

First things first. The paint is peeling because there is to much moisture in the bathroom while you are using it. Do you have any windows you can open or a ventilating bathroom fan. If you have a window crack it open part way while you are showering.

The water droplets will accumulate on the walls and drip into any cracks. Right above the tile grout is a great place for moisture to accumulate. Oh yeah moisture loves grout and drywall. If you have any unpainted areas or an area that has cracked. Guess what you have now.

Your paint is peeling because the bathroom gets hot and cold. Moist and dry. If you have the door and windows shut. You just created a moisture trap. Most people prefer their privacy and will closes the door when using the shower. Well then open the window and let some cold air in while you are taking a nice warn shower. I don't think so. Most showering fools don't like that idea either.

Ok one more idea keep the windows shut so you don't let the cold air in. Then lock the door so no on barges in on you. If you have a ventilation fan turn it on. This will at least pull fresh air in from under the door and send the moist air out of the house.

But the fan is so noisy and I can't enjoy my nice warm vapor producing shower that will eventually cause me to get sick from mold particles floating around in the air while I am using my bathroom.
Does this about sum it up for you and don't we all do this from time to time. We want to enjoy our shower time, so we close up everything and when we are in our bath sauna environment relaxing our house is getting some damaging moisture that could cause mold and mildew.

Open a window or door a little when you shower. Get some air circulating through the bathroom and prevent damage to your nice house.

Put up with a little inconvenience for you homes sake and your pocket book.

Whole Grain Vs. Whole Wheat - What is Best for You? Part I

Whole Grain Vs. Whole Wheat - What s the best for you? Part I
We have all seen it, 100% whole wheat bread that sits next to the white bread. It looks like white bread, but it says enriched. Enriched with what? Well, let me back up a little. When wheat is harvested the whole grain is taken to the refinery. REFINERY, did you see that! The wheat is heated to a point when the germ and the bran fall off. What is left is the starch, the white part, the not good for you part. The part that has a long shelf life and is bug resistant. Do you know why it is bug resistant? Bugs CANNOT sustain life in it. They will die if they only eat this refined grain. So why on earth, with the abundance of good life sustaining food do we eat white flour, which is the starch of the wheat grain ground up. Honestly do I need to answer that? Take a look around and you will see obesity on the rise, and now not only are adults overweight, but kids, little kids are getting more and more fat. Why? We are feeding ourselves all kinds of unhealthy food. Some do it because it is cheaper, some because of taste, and some just because they don't know any better.

So now that I explained what white bread is made of, let me continue to answer the question of "what exactly is enriched"? After the refinery takes the grains apart and makes white flour, which has no nutrition, they add some vitamins, some minerals, and some fiber, but not even a gram worth. The white bread is enriched with some of the very things they just worked so hard to take out. However, they do not add in as much of the grain they take away, otherwise it would be whole grain. Just enough to add some flavor and calories to it.

What is whole grain? It is the WHOLE grain used in the process of making bread, cereal and the building blocks of many other foods. For it to be truly healthy whole grain needs to be listed on your bread, cereal or other food in the number 1 or number 2 position on the ingredients list. No, whole wheat flour which is followed by (enriched white flour, niacin, and iron) is not healthy, it is a way of making people believe that they are getting a whole grain bread. They are not lying, it is whole wheat flour, but not whole grain. It did come from the wheat plant and it is all wheat, but not all grain. Whole is just another word like all. If you look a little farther down on the list you will see molasses, why molasses you ask? It colors the bread to make it look brown. Yup, white flour plus vitamins and minerals still does not bring the bran back into the bread. Bran is what helps to give the natural brown color to bread. So, they again, add something to it, to try and make it look like something it is not.

Mold in Your Home - What to Do?

Oh, Poor Moldy Me! Or The Canary in the Coal Mine Speaks

No need to hire a mold inspector. Just send me, Amy Gray, into any area you suspect of having mold, and I'll come back with an instant report. As in the form of a splitting headache.

I don't get headaches that often. So if one quick trip into a damp, moldy, basement turns me into a migraine case, imagine what it is doing to your health on a day to day basis.

Let's backtrack just a wee bit. What is mold? Why is it in my house? And how the heck do I get rid of it?

Mold is everywhere. Just like dust mites. Outdoors, molds play an important role in breaking down dead organic material such as leaves. Indoors, mold can cause allergic reactions, asthma, eye irritation and as mentioned above, headaches. Continuous exposure to mold can create serious health problems.

Since mold spores are airborne and can be carried by house dust, the question then becomes: how do I make my house unfriendly to mold?

Answer: Control Indoor Moisture.

If you have mold growing on firewood, furniture, walls, refrigerators, in the heating or ventilation system or anywhere else, it is very important to act fast. The longer mold grows on something, the more damage it can cause to that item. And if it's in your heating or air system, it's flying all over your house on a regular basis.

I remember a client telling me he was setting aside some upholstered furniture to be used later inside his house. I asked to see where the furniture was stored. As we opened the leaky garden shed, the blast of mold breath was overwhelming. Inside, a version of mold Woodstock was taking place on formerly nice couches and chairs. Now they were bedecked with interesting patterns of white, black and orange mold designs.

Places that have water in them on a regular basis - such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and basements - are a good first place to look for signs of mold. Walls that show water stains can be an accurate indicator that there is a leak somewhere and mold is most probably present.

For a very helpful site on mold, visit http://www.epa.gov/mold/index.html.
Our local American Lung Association has a program called the Master Health Environmentalist where you can sign up for a free home inspection to see if your home has airborne irritants, including mold, that may impact your health.

As the weather turns wet, keep your eyes open for mold. Or just call me in. But please have some aspirin handy.

Feng Shui - The Power and Goodness of Natural Light

A person without light lives in darkness. So it can be said with Feng Shui. In the traditions of Feng Shui light represents energy and goodness. Light is good - yet natural light is best and the best choice of all. Natural light is good Feng Shui. Sure artificial light can help adjust or fill in missing qi in dark or difficult spots. Yet just like organic foods and organic vegetables and fruits are best, so is the choice of natural light and working with natural light sources rather than jumping on the artificial and artificial light bandwagon right from the get go. You are what you are and you are best to shepherd, focus, amplify and utilize all of the natural light you have - for natural goodness.

An antenna does not create energy or better radio signals - an antenna serves to focus. In the same manner take all the effort and work you can to focus the natural light sources that you have available. For example a choice of light colored walls , drapes , carpets and furniture can help reflect and amplify the incoming natural light that you have available for your purposes. On the other hand if you're living areas face the sun and are just "too bright" for comfort, then use the reverse. Darker walls, furnishings and even drawn drapes can soften an otherwise harsh environment. Darker walls can actually absorb heat on a cold winter day and give warmer more comfortable living areas as opposed to simply drawing the drapes or blinds and reflecting out this wonderful source of natural light and natural warmth and goodness, in the end it can be said that balance is key. A stabilizing effect between the wonderful effect of natural lights and fill in artificial lights, which must be used as a fill in at times, is the desired result.

If there is glare from the outside then this can be softened through the uses of drapes, curtains or blinds. In cases where harsh overhead or even floor lamps create an air of oppression or restraint - then simple standard table lamps can be used to create wonderful organic soft soft pools of nourishing light. Rooms flooded with these pools of soft light make a room feel immensely relaxed as well as most inviting. It's as if the room itself with its soft light beckons the visitor in.

Even if you feel that you are limited in the physical geography and limitations of your living or work space - with the help of simple Fen Shui principles and some simple basic thought much can be done. For example simply cleaning a wall through a thorough washing may well increase the lightness of color of the wall and the natural , healthy light reflected and indeed bouncing off the wall to the center of the room. In a similar means simply adding a hanging mirror, or even mirrors on a wall or even a ceiling areas may greatly focus the available ambient light you already have - bringing up greatly the lighting values, colors and indeed apparent friendliness of living or working areas. Lastly always remember and note that in a pinch - candles will always add great amounts of yang qualities to a "ying" area.

In the end it can be said that a person who light symbolizes warmth and goodness. Light symbolizes education and moral values. A person, family, home or business without light lives in darkness. Feng Shui.

The Times They Are Changing

We live in a very interesting time in world history. The evolution of getting to this point has never been so dynamic. Even though all the events that have taken place prior to this point in time have great significance, and the fact that it is what brought us here, our current world environment has been propelled into the 21st century with lightening speed. The advancement of technology in communications, information, and the internet has created the instant information age. And with that our conscious minds have become more inter connected with the world than ever before.

What is interesting is that this phenomenon is the staging ground for all of us to become more enlightened. We are, and always have been connected to the entire universe. We all have roots in the universe because consciousness affects our physical world, which includes all living things right down to the individual cells. Our minds have a great influence on our health and well being and on how we view the world. Our existence in the universe is born of a sense of participation and kinship with all others and all matter. The basic oneness of the universe is the central characteristic of the mystical experience, but is also one of the most important revelations of modern physics, (i.e. quantum physics). But I don't want to talk about quantum theory; I want to talk about the human connectedness, and what I detect as a shift in the thinking of more and more people.

Because of the information age, a fast paced lifestyle, what's in it for me attitude, and a win at all cost mentality, too many people began losing sight of the connection we all have with each other and the universe. The ideal of we are all in this together was fading, and taking responsibility for the common good of all, had begun to disappear. Over the last decade, an exponential amount of negative actions and the pursuits of an ideology of egotism have brought us to this juncture. But there is hope because I see the beginning of a change in the minds of many people.

Now, more than ever people are placing an increased importance on relationships. Taking stock of what really matters, like family, friends, and community. There is a new awareness that we are all connected to the universe, and that human consciousness and the physical world are intertwined. The realization is that there is a profound interaction that exists between conscious mental activity and the physical world itself.

We cannot separate our own existence from that of the outside world. We are not only associated with the earth that we inhabit, but with the furthest reaches of the cosmos. We affect all of those about us, so events such as caring, loving, and confiding exert profound consequences on the universe.

Following the Laws of Attraction, the universe gives us what we want if follow our dreams and our passions, but it also takes away if we lose sight of that connection that exists between us all. I believe that there is a change in the winds of time because there is the beginning of an understanding of this relationship. Maybe, just maybe it could be the start of the new Age of Enlightenment.

New Trick For Christians Who Believe Without Any Doubt

Dealing With Selfish Thoughts

The Similarities and Differences of Pilates and Yoga

You can barely turn on the TV nowadays without hearing about Pilates or Yoga. When you take up a magazine, you are bound to find articles about these two exercise methods and it seems like everyone is doing either one or the other. What is all of the excitement about? Why are these techniques so special? What are the differences and similarities between Pilates and Yoga?

Yoga aims to unite the body, mind, and spirit. The person who aspires to do Yoga views that the body and mind are one. They believe that if the body is given the right tools and is taken to the proper environment then the body can find harmony and will be able to heal itself. Yoga is considered to be therapeutic. You will have a heightened awareness of your body's alignment, posture, and patterns of movement. Yoga tends to make your body more flexible and it will help you to relax even if you are in the middle of a stress stricken environment. Therefore, one of the most important reasons as to why people start practicing Yoga is that they want to feel more energetic, be more happy, feel more fit and be at peace.

One performs Yoga mainly in a group setting on a special Yoga mat with the help of a Yoga instructor. You use your body's own weight for resistance. You must also focus a great deal of your attention to the flow from one posture into that of another. Yoga styles are varied and there is not one style that is considered to be better than another. These styles also vary in their emphasis, and the style you choose is a matter of personal preference.

Pilates also seeks to reach many of the same goals as does Yoga by way of a series of movements that are very controlled. The major difference between Pilates and Yoga is that while doing Pilates exercises not only makes use of a mat, but it also incorporates work on different Pilates machines. The main thrust of the Pilates exercises is to improve posture, strengthen the abdominal muscles, improve balance, lengthen and stabilize the spine and improve overall strength. Pilates will tend to give you a leaner, longer, dancer-like line.

A Whole Body Workout

Unlike a variety of other training programs, Pilates makes an effort to work the whole body and places its emphasis on precision, control, and concentration in both the body as well as the mind. There is no attempt made at doing many repetitions at a time in a rapid, haphazard fashion. Instead, the focus is placed on quality and not the amount of reps you do. The "powerhouse" that consists of the lower back, abdominal muscles and the buttocks are at the center of all movement and this allows the rest of your body to move fluidly and freely. When one focuses on core stabilization, it makes the student stronger from the inside out.

This is critical for the advancement of the Pilates student. Pilates is low impact by nature and, therefore, it is ideal for the prevention of injury and for rehabilitation. Pilates has six guiding principles - concentration, centering, flow, control, breathing and precision. These principles train the body to move more efficiently while placing minimal impact on the body. With Pilates, there is a definite balance between flexibility and strength that creates a vigorous, symmetrical and health workout for all of the different muscle groups, which will result in a more balanced, leaner, and stronger body.

Changing the Focus of Halloween for Christians

Some Christians avoid mention of Halloween. Some celebrate it anyway. Now, one company may change the way Christians view Halloween forever.

They have come up with a way to use Halloween as an opportunity. They have a Memory Cross card to hand out to trick-or-treaters with your Halloween candy.

What is a Memory Cross card? It is a four panel interactive card that is designed in an origami style. It unfolds to display selected bible verses. They target kids ages 4-13 and use colorful graphics to hold the both children and adults attention.

The original intention of a Memory Cross cards was for creator, Pastor Andy Lambert, to use in his sermons to tell bible stories. However, now there is yet another use. Because people love to play with these cards and flip them around, they easily learn Gods Word. These are great evangelism tools. Even the shy kids will want to pass them out to their family and friends.

Now for Halloween, they have a product that is designed to fold like the originals, but presents the gospel message. It starts out and says FREE CANDYWhat could be better than that? and then goes on to share the gospel. It is colorful. It has a photo of candy corn on the front and makes kids want to take a look inside.

Soinstead of just handing out candy this year, Christians can bring the hope of the gospel into the homes of every child who knocks on their door!

Sheryl Frey is a Christian dedicated to helping others find great Christian products like Memory Cross to share their faith. She also organizes the Memory Cross Kids challenge. For more information please see http://www.memorycrosskidschallenge.com

Christianity Vs Works Based Religion

Over the centuries Christianity has grown immensely in popularity. I feel that why this has come to pass is because it is the only religious doctrine that is based solely on us praying in the name of Jesus to God to ask forgiveness for our sins, and forgiveness being granted by God. In John 14:5-6 (NKJV) Thomas said to Him, Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. These two passages clearly instruct each of us to ask forgiveness of our sins in Jesus name.

Our Father in Heaven knew that no matter how hard mankind tried, because of our imperfections, we would always be sinners; and sinners are not permitted to enter His kingdom in heaven. In the Old Testament we can read how mankind, in general, kept falling short of Gods commandments, and how even when led by Moses, the people had weak days and could not sustain these commandments of the Living God on a continual basis. My conception of the Old Testament and other major religions portray to me that they are works based. God bridged this gap from the works based type in one sole act. He sent forth to earth His Son for all of mankind. This is best summarized by Jesus disciple John in the New Testament; John 3:16 (KJV) which says, God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. This is also reinforced by The New Testament in 1 John 2:1, 2:2 (NCV) which says, But if anyone does sin, we have a helper in the presence of the FatherJesus Christ, the One who is right. He is the way our sins are taken away, and not only our sins but the sins of all people. In my mindset only the New Testament of Christianity offers mankind the only feasible alternative.

The unique posture that Jesus Christ offers mankind in the New Testament of Bible is His covenant that He made with God, and is expressed by Jesus at the Last Supper, in the New Testament in Luke 22:19, 20 (NCV). Then Jesus took some bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to the apostles, saying, This is my body, which I am giving for you. Do this to remember me. In the same way, after supper, Jesus took the cup and said, This cup is the new agreement that God makes with His people. This new agreement begins with my blood which is poured out for you. From this point forward Christianity was born, and mankind truly had the way to enter heaven.

Jesus, during His crucifixion, said in Luke 23:34 (KJV), Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. Alone, this selfless statement by Jesus, thinking only about us, in His ultimate anguish and pain of taking on all on the mankinds sins past, present and future during the crucifixion portrays the truest love that He had for all of mankind, and set the example for His Fathers second greatest commandment, Love your neighbor as you love yourself.

A Culmination Of Pagan Practices

Christmas Is The Most Celebrated Holiday In Christianity. Some Consider It The Most Holy Day Of The Year.

The exaltation of Christmas is in itself a travesty. Most historians, and Christian scholars know that Jesus was not born on December 25th. They realize that his birth date was probably in the fall. This is backed up by circumstances surrounding Jesus birth.

People knowingly follow a false date set aside to exalt Jesus. Not only is the date a fraud, but also so are the practices. Many manmade traditions have been mixed in with the worship of God. This is like mixing dung with balsam.

The majority of the activities associated with Christmas have no relationship to Jesus. Sure there is an adopted religious (paganish) Nativity scene about Christ. But there are many more adopted pagan customs that are totally unrelated.

Christmas originated in Rome in the 4th century. The tradition came after the Council of Nicaea met in 325 C.E. For kingdom unification, the Council adopted the idea that Jesus was God. Christmas was a Christian substitute for the pagan celebration of winter solstice.

The winter solstice usually occurred around December 25th on the ancient Julian calendar. This celebration was a part of another Roman celebration called Saturnalia. Saturnalia began each year on December 17th. At that time the Romans honored Saturn, the ancient god of agriculture. Also celebrated was the lengthening of daylight following the winter solstice. Romans did this by glorifying Mithra, the ancient Persian god of light. These and other winter festivities lasted until January 1.

The Roman Catholic Church chose December 25 as the day for the Feast of the Nativity. This was in order to give Christian meaning to existing pagan rituals. The Church replaced festivities honoring the birth of the Mithra by commemorating the birth of Jesus. They called Jesus the light of the world. The Church hoped to draw pagans into its religion by overlapping their revelry.

Traditionally, the sacred Christmas season starts with Advent. Advent continues to Christmas Day. During Advent, Christians make preparations for commemorating Jesus birth on December 25th. They also look forward to the Second Coming of Christ.

About 600A.D., Pope Gregory I decreed that Advent start the fourth Sunday before Christmas. He decreed that the season end on Epiphany, January 6th.

Over the next 1200 years, Christmas observances followed the expansion of Christianity. It expanded throughout Europe, into Egypt, and eventually into America. Along the way, Christian beliefs combined with other pagan feasts and winter rituals. This created many distorted long-standing Christian traditions of Christmas celebrations.

Some examples are:

1)The ancient Europeans believed that the mistletoe plant held magic powers to bestow life and fertility, to bring about peace, and to protect against disease. They associated the plant with the Norse goddess of love, Freya, and developed the custom of kissing underneath mistletoe branches.

2)The Roman Catholic Church first introduced the midnight Mass in the 5th century. The dramatization of the biblical story of Jesus birth was a practice begun by Saint Francis of Assisi in the 13th century.

3)Many cultures continue the pre-Christian custom of burning Yule logs during the midwinter season; the Yule log symbolizes the victory of light over the darkness of winter. According to ancient tradition, the ashes provide protection against bad luck during the year.

4)The German custom of decorating an evergreen tree at Christmastime has become one of the most popular images of Christmas around the world. At one time, Germany supplied the world with almost all of the decorative glass ornaments for Christmas trees. On the evening of December 5th, children wait for a visit from Saint Nicholas, who brings them gifts. Most children also receive gifts on Christmas Eve. In some parts of Germany, Santa Claus distributes gifts, but in other regions Knecht Ruprecht, a mythical figure dressed in animal skins, delivers childrens treats. On Christmas Eve, families traditionally gather around Christmas trees decorated with lights, ornaments, and Lebkuchen, which are spiced cookies cut into decorative shapes. Worshippers holding candles illuminate Church services on Christmas Eve. The Advent wreath, which consists of four candles anchored in a circle of evergreen branches, originated with German Lutherans; many churches and families have adopted the tradition. At the beginning of each of the four weeks preceding Christmas, Christians light an Advent candle as they say a prayer.

5)In Italian folklore Santa Claus is not a prominent figure. Instead, Italian children wait for La Befana, a good witch who rides her broom to their homes on Epiphany to distribute gifts. According to folk belief, La Befanawhose name refers to the word Epifania (Epiphany)was too busy to accompany the Three Wise Men on their journey to visit the infant Jesus in Bethlehem. Now, to atone for her failing, she visits all good children, leaving treats. She also visits bad children and leaves them lumps of coal or bags of ash.

6)In England religious customs of Christmas celebrations center on recounting the story of Christs birth. Most people who celebrate Christmas also participate in such secular customs as watching Christmas plays, feasting, singing, and helping the poor. Before Christmas Day, children write wish lists to Father Christmas, who is the British version of Santa Claus. They then throw these letters into the fire. Children believe that if a draft draws the letter up through the chimney, their wishes will be fulfilled. Children open their gifts on Christmas afternoon. Many people in England also make charitable contributions to churches and to the needy on the day after Christmas, known as Boxing Day. They also give small gifts known as Christmas boxes to those who have performed personal services throughout the year.

7)America has become a melting pot for many world Christmas traditions, with many new customs, many of which started in the 19th century. Before then Christmas had been an ordinary workday in many communities, particularly in New England, where early Puritan objections to Christmas celebrations remained highly influential. Families almost never exchanged Christmas gifts among themselves.

These early Christmas traditions in America quickly changed. Among some groups, Christmas became an especially boisterous event, characterized by huge feasts, drunkenness, and raucous public revelry. In an English tradition that survived in some parts of North America, Christmas revelers would dress in costume and progress from door to door to receive gifts of food and drink. Most holiday gifts were limited to small amounts of money and modest presents passed from the wealthy to the poor and from masters to their servants. The rapidly expanding industrial economy of the 19th century flooded the market with new goods for sale, and also helped establish a new middle class. Christmas gained increased prominence largely because many people believed it could draw families together and honor children. Giving gifts to children and loved ones eventually replaced the raucous public celebrations of the past, and Christmas became primarily a domestic holiday.

With the new custom of Christmas gift giving, the marketplace exerted an unprecedented influence on holiday celebrations. Commercial innovations such as department stores and mass advertising further expanded the custom of exchanging Christmas gifts. Seasonal retail sales helped fuel the economy, causing merchants and advertisers to become some of the seasons most dedicated promoters. Many holiday celebrants regretted these changes and began voicing the now common grieve that Christmas has become too commercial. With the influx of immigrants, who introduced a wide variety of religious and cultural practices to North American life, celebrating Christmas became a way for people from different parts of the world to create a sense of community in the cities. The holiday forged a sense of nondenominational Christian spirit in the communities, as it promoted a sense of collective good will.

Christmas, the most Holy Day of Christianity, has many built-in errors and influences. Although it has become a Day to reflect on goodwill toward mankind, the core of Christianitys foundation (Jesus birth) has pagan roots. Just imagine how many more pagan customs are embedded into other Christian holidays and beliefs. All of the Christian traditions need to be investigated thoroughly, if one is to take them literally.

With Christmas, like other holidays, Christians give reverence to images and symbols. With Christmas there is the symbol of the Christ child. In Rome this image is called Santo Bambino Jesu.

There are also other pagan images, adopted for various reasons. Some of these images include: mistletoe, prayer cloths and beads, people, spirits, Crucifixes, etc. To include the worship of any image or object is an abomination. God wants our total dedication to Him only, in spirit only.

Biblical Scriptures read:

Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: Deut. 5:8.

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Deut. 6:5.

Jesus said:

Have ye ever seen dung mixed with balsam?

Now I tell you that there be in the world greater madmen, because with the service of God they mingle the service of the world. So much so that many of blameless life have been deceived of Satan, and while praying have mingled with their prayer worldly business, whereupon they have become at that time abominable in the sight of God. Tell me, when ye wash yourselves for prayer, do ye take care that no unclean thing touch you? Yea, assuredly. But what do ye when ye are making prayer? Ye wash your soul from sins through the mercy of God. Would ye be willing then, while ye are making prayer, to speak of worldly things? Take care not to do so, for every worldly word becometh dung of the devil upon the soul of him that speaketh. GB: 84.

Religion and Yoga

Etymologically the word religion denotes duality, as it is a combination of Latin re and ligare, meaning to bind or connect again. Cicero, Lactantius and Augustine slightly differ from each other in their meaning of religion, which is quite natural. Through millennia, after many definitions and interpretations, the word religion has become a loaded word, and organised religion has further distorted its meaning. But shorn of the dross gathered around it, it means reunion with something from which we have separated earlier (fall of man). Similarly, yoga means to yoke or join together in Sanskrit, denoting--again--duality. Therefore, translation of religion should be yoga-not dharma, as is the case-and vice versa.

Like religion, Yoga, too, has also become a loaded word, by and large meaning a regimen of exercises, breath control and meditation (dhyana) to tone up the body and control the mind.

From the above, it follows: Bind or connect again to what (in case of religion)? And yoke or join to what (in case of yoga)? You reconnect with something where the connection has been snapped. Likewise, you yoke or join two things that once constituted one undivided whole.

Both the words were coined by the aspirants in the distant past to describe what they thought to be the source, since lost somewhere along the line. But, was there really a source? If yes, then, how the source was lost? There has to be a self or I together with something dividing it from the source; however 'I' is nothing but first person, singular pronoun.

The famous American philosopher Daniel Dennett maintains in his book, Consciousness Explained, that the self is an illusion-no more than a series of shifting "multiple drafts" or narratives, with no central focus or continuity.

On the other hand, the illustrious British mathematician Roger Penrose says: The world is an illusion created by the conspiracy of our senses.

When these two statements are juxtaposed with each other, we find that "the self is an illusion" according to Dennett, and "the world is an illusion" as per Penrose. Hence, the self is an illusion and so is the world. Is it then all Maya? The word Maya means illusion in English. In Sanskrit, however, Maya means measurement. What can be measured is Maya. English words like measurement, myth, meter, matter, and music, share a common ancestry with it. All measurements start from the point called 'I' or 'self'. When this I or self is knocked off, then Maya collapses along with religion and yoga. Then what is left is the Source.

Currently, I am working on a book for children.

Use Solar Power at Home to Reduce Or Eliminate Electricity Bills

There are a lot of family expenses every month and few of them are really necessary, among which your electricity bill is one of the largest. Electricity is used in our lives in each and every step of our day such as cleaning, cooking, heating, lights, your computer and TV, etc. the demand is increasing and the supply is dwindling so, naturally, the price of the electricity is very much on the rise. In order to cut down our burden we must take the initiative to cut down on our costs. The solution is fairly simple, either you lower down your electricity consumption or you begin to use alternative energy sources such as solar panels which will allow you to harness the energy from the sun for free.

Traditionally installing solar panels is quite costly for initial startup however there is a far cheaper option currently available; this is to simply do-it-yourself.

Substituting your current household electricity with that produced by solar panels is not nearly as tough as many people seem to think, rather it is fairly simple. All that you really need to do is to make the solar array containing a number of solar cells on a surface which should face the sun for the longest period of the day in order to maximize the energy that you are able to harness. Generally your rooftop is the best location as it gets sun all day long without being in shadows. This energy later can be put in your battery bank to be used during night or even entire cloudy days. Your battery can only hold DC power, so your next step is to get a DC to AC converter in order to run your household appliances off of your free energy generated from the sun.

The cheapest option for installing solar panels is to go with DIY Solar Panel Instructions which include detailed instructions, step-by-step video walk-throughs and even locations to get all of your materials as cheap as possible.

With DIY solar panel instructions you can be living off the grid, on free solar energy, for as little as a $200 start up cost. Start saving money and the environment today, what are you waiting for?

AC System Replacement - The Efficiency Consideration - Should I Repair it or Replace It

In my recent article entitled "Air Conditioning System Replacement - The Age Consideration" we recently discovered how the age of your home cooling system can be a determining factor in the decision to replace your current Air Conditioner or Heat Pump System. Now let's see how the upgrade of efficiency plays into the equation of a new Cooling system replacement.

Efficiency is the leading reason that most families replace their existing Air Conditioning systems. Let's face it, if something didn't improve, be it money savings on utility bills or comfort, no one would change out their working units. Cost savings are a serious trigger for homeowners these days and a new Air Conditioning System can prove to be an investment that pays off in a big way.

Let's take a look. As the age issue points out, an Air Conditioning System that is approaching 15 years of age, will probably only be rated at 8 or 10 SEER. SEER is the efficiency measurement and standard that all U.S. Air Conditioning Systems are given for their operating cost efficiency. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Currently, the minimum SEER that is available in the U. S. is 13 SEER, and some systems are rated as high as 21 SEER.

So what does this mean to you the homeowner? Well, let's say you currently have an 8 SEER Air Conditioner and you decide to upgrade to a 13 SEER (current minimum standard). Each numeric rise in SEER rating equates to approximately an 8% increase in efficiency. That being the case, a 40% efficiency gain is possible (13-8=58=40). This means that if your average monthly summer cooling bill is $200, you could save up to $80 per month on our utility bill or nearly $1000 per year.

A savings of $1000 per year is huge. Now how does this play into the decision to replace your current air conditioning or heat pump system? Simply do the math. Over the course of the first five years, the saving alone will more then pay for the cost of a new system. What are you waiting for?

Micro Wind Turbines For Cities

When discussions of renewable energy are undertaken, the focus is often on large scale projects. In truth, the answer may be platforms developed for a more local application.

When renewable energy is discussed, most people picture large structures. With solar, it is a valley full of solar panels glittering in the sun. With wind power, most think of large turbines gracefully twirling in the wind as they sit in valleys or up on hills. As more money is put into renewable energy research, the research results are producing an entirely new spectrum of devices.

With wind power, one of the issues is finding optimal places for placing turbines. Monetarily, this can be problematic. The best wind locations are often located smack dab in the middle of developed areas. Even for areas that are available, the cost of setting up transmission lines for the resulting energy can be obscene. Given this catch-22 situation, many have started working outside the box on wind power platforms.

Oregon State University and AeroVironment, Inc, have come up with a unique solution for the wind power problem. Their idea is to abandon the wind farm idea completely. Instead, they are looking to applications that can be used on a per structure basis. In this case, the solution is micro wind turbines.

Micro wind turbines are essentially wind turbines on a scale of a couple of feet in height instead of thirty or forty feet. The idea is to place the turbines on the roofs of buildings to capture the wind that is often found rushing over the edge of roofs. The turbines are designed to be modular, meaning they can be added to the roof on an as needed basis. This is accomplished by using a track system similar to lighting in a home as the base for the turbines. Depending on the energy needs of the structure, one, ten or 100 turbines can be installed.

Admittedly, a row of little wind turbines may look a bit odd on your average office building. On industrial buildings and warehouses, however, the structures would make little or no difference to the appearance. Heck, they would probably be an improvement. More importantly, the turbines would represent energy independence for many of the businesses using the buildings. Unlike solar, the turbines would generate power during both the day and night, meaning power could be stored in batteries or the utility grid at night to cover high energy use periods during the day.

Micro wind turbines may or may not become part of the solution to the energy issues before us. What is clear, however, is talented people are starting to focus on the subject and come up with innovative solutions.

Vanamahotsava, Global Warming and Climate Change

As a great saying goes "Welcome, O life! I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience and to forge in the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of my race." Vanamahotsava is the festival of life. It was started in India, as a campaign to save mother earth. BUT HAS THIS CAMPAIGN REALLY BORE FRUIT? We all might have heard, some of us experienced the dreadful effect of global warming. The reason, greenhouse gases. The solution, stop emission. But is that possible? No country is ready to sacrifice its economy for the ecology! And when fossil fuels are continued to be burnt everyday, the amazon forest that sustains life on earth is being destroyed at a steady rate! SO did we miscalculate the after effects? Yes we did and now a lot of scientists tell that it's necessary to develop forests. But with the growing population, I doubt there would be enough resources to do so. So I came up with this new alternative when I was surfing the net one day. It's called URBAN FORESTRY, mainly involves the development of green belts in cities. To do this you need not go and plant trees on the roadside, start from your own backyard. So this vanamahotsava, are you all ready to do a little. Remember that one tree in your garden, can surely make a difference, because a single tree can absorb about one ton of CO2 in its lifetime!

Remember if the current rate of emissions goes on, the current rate of melting of ice continues, within a span of 30 years sea levels will rise by 20 feet. Now some people will say this is all a hoax, but scientists prove it! If the sea levels rise by 20feet, all coastal cities will be wiped out. And those cities like Bangalore high up there will have acute water shortage, food shortage, and a 200% rise in diseases!

My dear friends if you think I'm a fool, please see the movie "AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH". Hats off to Al Gore for his efforts to save mother earth.

Some of you might say, we won't be there at that time, but did you all just forget your children, or grandchildren? If you all really care for them, please try planting atl east one sapling this year. You decide your vanamahotsava to plant it.

Please try following the below energy saving measures. These energy saving measures can cut down your expenses as well as cut your household CO2 emissions by 1.5 tons!

Reduce-Reuse-Recycle

Do your part in reducing wastes by choosing reusable rather than disposable products. Try using recycled paper and plastics as much as possible

Replace your light bulbs with low energy consuming CF bulbs. These not only use less electricity, but also last 15 time longer.

Drive less Drive smart Try not using a vehicle to ply small distances, use your feet. Remember every litre of petrol you save, prevents about 2.5kgs of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

Buy energy-efficient products When its time to buy a new car choose one that offers a good mileage. Always buy home appliances that have a good energy efficiency value. If you reduce your household garbage by 10% you can save 600kgs of CO2 emissions annually.

Use the "OFF" switch: Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off the lights when you leave the room. And remember not to keep televisions, video players...in the standby mode, as a lot of energy gets wasted.

And the last step is: Plant a tree in your backyard.

Friends these are a few steps we all can/must try to implement if we Our future generations live happily. Climate change due to global warming is not reversible now. But what can be done is, its effects can be minimised. So I kindly call upon all of you to sacrifice a little now, which will surely make a big difference in the years to come. Do this if you have heart in there, which says, "I care".

Homemade Solar Panels - What You Need to Know to Start Saving Money on Power Bills

Homemade solar panels have many benefits. First, they mean purchasing materials which can be bought locally. Second, the savings in energy mean they quickly pay for themselves. Finally, they help reduce use of non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels. Homemade solar panels can be a major boon to any home and even some small businesses.

A homemade solar panel can be made in several ways. There are simple electricity generators, air heating banks and water warming heat exchangers. The homemade generators are not the most efficient source of solar electricity, but can add to the house anyway. Air heating banks can be made from simple black PVC tubing and then used to regulate temperature throughout a home. Water warming heat exchangers, the most efficient homemade system, can be made with black PVC and a large, well insulated tank buried in the yard. Most of these parts can be purchased in your local area, keeping money home and shipping to a minimum.

As everyone knows, energy costs keep rising. Simple homemade solar panels can reduce your dependence on outside energy. This means you save money, which can be spent in other areas. It doesn't usually take long to save the money you put into the project.

The last good reason for using homemade solar panels is the reduction in non-reusable resources. In the current world economy, fossil fuels, especially oil, are becoming a choke point on all fronts. The ability to use less fossil fuel will mean less long term dependence on rapidly dwindling resources. Therefore, fewer people will have to spend time defending international interests in politically volatile regions.

Consider all the different points. Locally purchased materials keep money local and shipping costs down. Savings in energy can be real and immediate. Reducing dependence on fossil fuels is good for everyone. Homemade solar panel are a good addition to any home or business.

Phase Change Materials - Eutectic Thermal Energy Storage Products

Ice Thermal Energy Storage (TES) has the advantage of universal availability, low cost and transport ability through other system components. However, a conventional ice TES system for air conditioning application requires low temperature chillers and therefore standard water chillers must be replaced with low temperature glycol chillers which operate with a lower evaporation temperature and consume more power.

If we can offer designers an ice which freezes and melts above or below 0C (32 F) these new products will open new horizons for environmentally friendly and economical systems for both New and Retrofit type process cooling / heating load shifting applications.

Phase Change Material (PCM) Eutectic solutions are mixtures of two or more chemicals which, when mixed in a particular ratio, have a freezing / melting point below or above water freezing temperature of 0 C (32 F) and they offer a thermal energy storage facility between -114 C (-173 F) and +164 C (327 F).

Eutectics are well-known and in fact early applications date back to the late 18th century however the separation and the life expectancy of these mixtures were unpredictable and therefore their wide spread usage was limited.

The disadvantages of a conventional HVAC chiller and ice (water ice) storage system can be overcome by utilising the latent heat capacity of various "Eutectic" mixtures without the need for minus circulation temperatures.

Phase Change Material (PCM) thermal energy storage not only enables the designer to utilise existing chiller technology but also enables charging by means of free cooling, i.e. without running the chillers

Although the term "Eutectic" is widely used to describe the materials we are interested in, a better description would be "Phase Change Materials" ("PCMs"). Unfortunately, very few of the documented PCM solutions are true Eutectics and so many have to be modified to obtain a material suitable for long term use.

PCMs can be broadly grouped into two categories; "Organic Compounds" and "Salt-based Products". The fundamental requirement for a modified Eutectic (PCM) Solution can be classified in three categories, namely stable solution (no separation or degrading), minimum supercooling / heating and finally close freezing and melting temperatures.

There are three fundamental additives commonly used to modify hydrated salt based Eutectic PCM solutions. These three components are firstly Nucleating Agent which encourages Crystal formation and therefore minimizes super cooling and the secondly additive is Freeze Depressant to achieve a lower phase change temperature and thirdly Gelling / Thickening Agent in order to overcome separation and degrading problems.

Once the above components have been carefully applied, a satisfactory Eutectic PCM Solution can be produced from the physical and thermodynamic point of views and commercially available solutions offer a range of -114 C (-173 F) and +164 C (327 F).

However, majority of suitable PCM solutions for HVAC and refrigeration systems are corrosive to commonly used pipe and line components and therefore suitable encapsulation techniques must be applied to overcome this problem while providing the best thermal performance. Various encapsulation techniques such as tube, flat container or alternatively ball concepts have been developed whereby the PCM solutions are encapsulated in plastic and / or metal shell.

The heat transfer between the surrounding media, which flows around or inside the unit and the surrounding PCM solutions, takes place from the outer or inner or the combination of both surfaces of the encapsulated PCM unit. These techniques are generally eliminates the contamination risk and offers an efficient, cost effective, practical and flexible new type of TES designs.

Modern society's reliance on refrigeration and air conditioning indicates that refrigeration and the associated environmental issues will be with us for a considerable time and therefore one has to utilize existing and available alternative technologies with minimum usage of energy.

A Positive Temperature Eutectic Phase Change Material (PCM) Thermal Energy Storage (TES) not only provides the end user with an Environmentally Friendly design but also the following additional benefits can be obtained:

Reduced Equipment Size
Capital Cost Saving
Energy Cost Saving
Environmentally Friendly Installation
Improved System Operation
Flexibility for the Future Capacities

The temperature ranges offered by the proposed PCM solutions utilize conventional chilled water temperature ranges for both the charging and discharging sides of the system. Hence, they can be applied to any new or retrofit application with minimal technical and economical impacts.

Furthermore, the possibility of Free Cooling Cycle, Absorption Chillers, Co-Generation, Solar, Hot Water and Heat Recovery TES system combinations offer new horizons for designers to control the energy balance to match the load and electricity demand / consumption of the system as a whole.

The task for designers is to explore all available technologies towards achieving improved efficiency regardless of which refrigerant is used, and apply where and when possible diversification technologies in order to minimize the overall CO2 emission related to energy usage. A carefully balanced Eutectic, Phase Change Material (PCM) Thermal Energy Storage (TES) may be the answer for some of the cooling applications for an Environmentally Friendly and Economical alternative.

Zafer Ure, M.Sc., C.Eng., MCIBSE., MASHRAE., MInstR., is the Managing Director of Environmental Process Systems Ltd. and has 25 years experience in the HVAC industry and has written many papers for industry conferences and magazines. Pupils and teachers alike are probably trying not to think about going back to school as the long summer holidays have only just begun, but as it is actually only a matter of weeks away, we have been thinking about how you can stay green as the new academic year approaches.

Firstly there is the equipment and kit that is invariably required whether you are teaching or learning. Many of these requirements are similar from primary school up until university so keep reading whichever type of educational establishment you work or study in. Stationery is a good start, much of which can be bought made from recycled materials. And when it comes to paper, remember to use both sides whether writing or printing. Also plan ahead with regards to lunches and invest in a lunch box rather than using plastic bags every day. If you need new school uniform check whether your school offers second hand clothes and donate your old good quality ones.

With regards to getting to your school or college, try to walk or cycle whenever possible, or use public transport if it is too far. Alternatively, set up a car sharing pool to reduce car use and save money.

Once you are there, you could think about how to make your school or college greener. Why not set up some eco-iniatives with colleagues or peers? You could become a Fairtrade school, set up a recycling scheme or move towards using renewable energy.

Ultimately, going back to school is just one more part of our lives where we can easily make a difference to our carbon footprint by making small changes to the purchases we make and actions we take. So as you start making plans for the next school year, think about how these could be a little greener.

Advantages of Solar Power Vs Disadvantages of Solar Power

Many households are considering of converting their home energy to be solar powered for the purpose of cutting down their electricity bills while saving our planet with this environmental friendly power source. But, not many are taking their action to make the real conversion to a solar-powered home because they are still doubt on the advantages of solar power that they can really get after the conversion while they do worry about the potential problems that may encountered after they make the conversion. Let briefly go through the advantages versus the disadvantages of solar power, so that you are cleared before you make your decision on whether to use solar-powered energy at home.

Advantages of Solar Power

  1. Solar power is a renewable source generated from the sun, meaning that the solar energy source is never going to finish. So, we do not need to worry about we may jeopardy of the energy source if you over use it.
  2. Solar power is environmental friendly energy source. Unlike oil, the use of solar energy will never causes green house effects or emits carcinogens into the air and causes the air pollution.
  3. The sun is FREE. Unlike the traditional energy source which you need to pay more if you use more, there is not limit on how much you can use the energy generated from solar power, and you do not need to think of the electricity cost when you use a solar-powered energy generator, because the sun is FOC (Free of Charge).
  4. Little maintenance cost on solar power system. Solar cells can last for a lifetime and because there are no moving parts, it needs very little maintenance. You do not really need to allocate significant budget for it maintenance cost.

Disadvantages of Solar Power

  1. The key stopping factor that makes most of people who are interested to install solar power system is the total cost is expensive. A solar power system that provides enough energy to power an average sized home can cost anywhere from $6,000 to $20,000. Seeing the potential market demand on solar power system, the industries with continue research efforts are trying to reduce the material costs. Moreover, there are many simple-to-follow DIY instruction manuals had been made published to teach people how to build their own solar power system using cheap materials which can be found at local market.
  2. The solar power can be generated without sunlight, which means the power cannot be created at night, during rain and winter season when sun is hiding behind the cloud. This had been one of key discouragement of using solar power as the alternative power solution.
  3. If you build the solar panel at the roof of your home, it becomes part of the house. You may need to sell it together with your house if you decide to move to a new home. And you need to reinstall the solar power system at your new home.

Summary

You should clearly understand of both the advantages and the disadvantages of solar power system before you go ahead to convert your home to be solar-powered so that you can really benefited from the advantages of solar power while handling the disadvantages of solar power to minimize the impacts.

How to Make a Wind Power Generator at Home

Wind power is the cheapest source of energy and you can make and install a wind power generator at your home and can start generating electricity for your own consumption. The electricity produced by wind generator is not only much cheaper than what you are getting today, but also the whole process is pollution free.

Wind is the renewable source of energy and we need a small kit, which is also called as wind power generator so that we can get additional electricity for our home. The kit is readily available in the market; however there are many varieties of it and some are very costly. We need to ensure that we get a good quality product at minimum price so that we can cut down huge electricity bill instantaneously.

A wind power generator converts the kinetic energy of wind to the electrical energy and which is then supplied to our house through the connecting wires and thus we start saving on electricity bills, once the unit starts generating electricity. A wind power generator has many parts and the major parts of it are the gearbox and large rotor blades. You might have seen large rotor blades at many places. Although these occupy some space, however you can install these in your backyards or garden.

There are many places where wind flow is heavy and thus there is a potential to generate good amount of electricity through wind power generators. Even in other places also, you can generate electricity and can reduce your electricity bill by 50 to 70 percent.

So, you can install a wind power generator at your home with an initial investment of around $200 and can start generating electricity. The advantage of the technique is that it is totally pollution free and the repair and maintenance cost of the wind power generator is negligible. So, try a suitable wind power generator today itself and start cutting down your huge electricity bill by as much as 70 percent.

Solar energy and wind energy are two most famous renewable sources of energy and nothing additional is required to generate electricity except a small initial investment. If you are thinking how can you generate electricity in your backyard so that you can reduce your electricity bill.

Earth4energy is a guide that teaches you how to create electricity in your backyard. This is worth spending a few bucks to save thousands in your electricity bills. Earth4Energy Review

Home Solar Power and Wind Power - Building Your Own Windmill

Today, there are many practical home solar power and wind power systems, but for now, let's talk windmills.Ok, most of us can visualize a windmill. However, a windmill is an ingenious contraption that takes wind energy and can convert it into other energy types.

A windmill takes the forces of wind power to created mechanical energy from its rotating its blades which then can produce electrical energy. The windmill is obviously an extremely energy efficient and useful device in times of such energy crisis as in today's world.Just in recent times has the modern windmill been used more for electricity production, whereas in older times it was used widely for pumping water and towing boats.

In today's energy-crisis world, it is imperative that we all search for alternate power systems. A windmill continues to be an economical alternate, particularly efficient at farms and in the countryside. Due to it's obvious need for wind and open areas, a windmill may not be the optimum solution in a highly-populated area.

So, Just What Are Windmill Prerequisites?

There are really only two important windmill prerequisites:

Available Area: windmills will work best in an area of at least one acre or so. It is typically not advisable to build windmills in smaller areas since the blades of the windmill need to be able to capture enough wind power to work properly.

Wind Speed - the typical average speed of wind in the area is recommended to be approximately 11 miles per hour or more.It is typically not recommended to construct a windmill at sites where factors like high-rise buildings and tall towers can cause wind blockage. Consistency of wind speed also is beneficial.

So, Just What Are Windmill Components?

Blades: responsible for actually capturing the wind for energy creation, typically made of plastic or sometimes wood.

Tower: the pillar that supports the system high off the ground. Towers are made of hard material, typically poly-vinyl chloride.

Shaft: joins the blades and tower, which also allows them to smoothly rotate.

Base: The base of the windmill connects the blades and tower.

How, You Ask, Is A Windmill Actually Constructed?
There are a few good home solar power and wind power combo kits and guides available in the market today. If you would like to choose the components personally and set the windmill on your own, make sure you seek advice from experts and people that have actually done it with good results.

Charles Jameson's has a story posted that describes his story of how he easily produced his own home solar power and wind energy to cut his power bill forever.
